Itasca International Announces Appointment of New CEO

Minneapolis, MN (December 6, 2016) — Itasca International, Inc., is pleased to announce that Charles E. Fairhurst has been chosen to succeed Loren Lorig as Chief Executive Officer of the company effective January 2, 2017. As planned Dr. Lorig will return to full-time consulting with Itasca's Santiago and Minneapolis offices.

Dr. Fairhurst will be an excellent fit for Itasca on many counts—his outstanding skill at managing people, familiarity with current business practices, and globally minded outlook. He also shares Itasca’s core values of uncompromising attention to quality, passion for learning and innovation, and shared responsibility for business as an employee-owned company.

“I have always been impressed by the warm, genuine, and professional culture reflected in every Itascan encountered, as well as by the creative and innovative technical solutions,” said Fairhurst. “I am extremely excited to be joining an organization known as the best of the best.”

Fairhurst, son of Itasca founder Dr. Charles Fairhurst, joins Itasca after nearly 30 years at MTS Systems Corporation, a designer and manufacturer of state-of-the art equipment for materials, structural, and ground vehicle testing including rock, airplane components, automobiles, medical devices, and more. At MTS, Charles worked his way from Design Engineer to Director of the Worldwide Materials Market Segment. He received a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Minnesota, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Mining Technologies from the Paris School of Mines.
