New General Manager at Itasca Canada
SUDBURY, CANADA — Itasca International Inc. (III) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Luigi Cotesta (M.Eng, P.Eng) as General Manager of Itasca Consulting Canada Inc. (Itasca Canada), a subsidiary of Itasca International. Mr. Cotesta will also continue to serve as a Principal Geomechanics Engineer for the company, leveraging his many years of multi-disciplinary experience in the mining industry.
The General Manager position was previously held by Dr. Richard Brummer, who founded the Canadian office in 1999. Under his leadership, Itasca Canada has always been a high-performing office and has consistently delivered high-quality engineering services to the mining industry all over the world. Dr. Brummer is currently on the path to retirement within the next five years and will be focusing his pre-retirement time consulting as a Principal Geomechanics Engineer. He will also continue to provide his 35+ years of technical expertise to clients and the rest of Itasca.
Mr. Cotesta has a Bachelor of Applied Science (Civil Engineering) from the University of Ottawa and has a Master of Engineering in Mineral Resources Engineering from Laurentian University (Sudbury). He has more than 19 years of experience working on a broad range of geomechanics problems on all types of mining operations, from small open pits to some of the world's deepest mines. He spent the first seven and a half years of his career working at Laurentian University (Sudbury) for the Geomechanics Research Centre, and Mirarco, where he developed a passion for solving mining problems using innovative tools and technologies. He spent the following 11.5 years working in various consulting roles within Itasca. During that time, he has developed a wealth of management skills, leading numerous geomechanical mine design and stability studies. He has also fostered collaborations with many other Itasca International offices, allowing him to share his technical expertise and help Itasca clients worldwide. In 2012, he received III's Presidential Award, a yearly award given to an individual that has made outstanding contributions to the broader company. Mr. Cotesta has also served as a Director of Itasca Canada since 2013. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario.
