About the Role

We are seeking a Geotechnical Engineer (Project to Senior level) to join our team.

In this role, you will apply geomechanics and ground engineering expertise to deliver technical solutions across a range of projects. You will undertake geotechnical analysis, numerical modelling, and problem-solving activities, while contributing to project delivery and the development of practical, data-driven engineering outcomes.

Depending on your level of experience, you will work with increasing autonomy and contribute to client engagement activities while continuing to grow your technical and consulting capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development

  • Contribute to business development activities through client engagement and support of proposal preparation and opportunity pursuits.
  • Assist with the preparation of proposals, capability statements, and technical inputs in collaboration with local and global teams.
  • Contribute market and project insights to support new business opportunities.
  • Represent ITASCA at industry events, conferences, and technical forums.
  • As required, contribute to technical papers, webinars, and industry presentations.

Project Delivery & Management

  • Deliver geotechnical engineering projects, ensuring high-quality outcomes and strong client satisfaction.
  • Contribute to project planning, scope definition, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Undertake geotechnical analysis, numerical modelling, and design assessments.
  • Support project performance through effective scheduling, budget awareness, and delivery management.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal stakeholders to define requirements and communicate progress.
  • Participate in site work as required (including domestic and occasional international travel).

Technical Expertise & Leadership

  • Apply sound to advanced expertise in geomechanics and rock mechanics to solve engineering challenges.
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports and deliverables.
  • Contribute to technical reviews and quality assurance processes.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of technical methods and workflows.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Support a culture of innovation, technical excellence, and practical problem solving.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of analytical methods, tools, and workflows.
  • Use ITASCA’s software, including testing, feedback, and collaboration with developers.
  • Participate in internal knowledge sharing, workshops, and technical discussions.

Qualifications and Requirements

Experience and Industry knowledge

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related discipline. Master's degree is preferred.
  • 4+ years' experience in consulting, mining, civil, or related industries, preferably within the Australian market.
  • Experience in geomechanics and numerical modelling.
  • Professional registration or eligibility to obtain registration
  • Understanding of relevant regulatory, commercial and industry environments.

Technical and professional capability

  • Ability to undertake and deliver numerical modelling studies within consulting project timeframes.
  • Sound understanding of modelling approaches, limitations, and practical application.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving capability in engineering environments.
  • Experience contributing to the delivery of technical projects and multidisciplinary teams.

Collaboration and communication

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams and global offices.
  • Confidence engaging with clients and presenting technical outcomes.
