ITASCA Unveils XSite 4.0: Advancing Hydraulic Fracturing Simulation

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA — May 16, 2024 — ITASCA, a global leader in geomechanical and hydrogeological engineering solutions, is thrilled to announce the launch of XSite 4.0, a groundbreaking advancement in hydraulic fracturing simulation software.

XSite 4.0 marks a significant milestone in the evolution of hydraulic fracturing modeling and is a direct response to the evolving needs of customers in the unconventional oil & gas, geothermal, and mining industries, empowering them to overcome complex challenges and optimize resource utilization. This latest release addresses optimal fracture design for enhanced production and improved reserve recovery, cost optimization, data integration and evaluation for informed decision making.

The primary objective of XSite 4.0 is to introduce enhanced modeling techniques to address critical industry demands. Key updates include integration of heat advection and convective heat transfers, an efficient implicit solver for fluid flow analysis, enhancement of matrix flow calculations for comprehensive reservoir analysis, different multi-stepping schemes to speed up simulations, and a redesigned User Interface (UI) for enhanced usability and efficiency.

XSite 4.0 represents a leap in simulation of hydraulic fracturing in naturally fractured reservoirs, using advanced modeling techniques to deliver unparalleled accuracy and efficiency.

Branko Damjanac, Senior Principal Engineer & Product Manager at ITASCA

XSite 4.0 is designed to cater to a wide range of professionals, including oil and gas operators, reservoir engineers, drilling and completions engineers, geoscientists, oilfield service companies, energy consultants, and research institutions. The latest version of XSite allows modeling of reservoir-scale, multi-well, multi-stage field stimulation by multiple fracture propagation and near-well fracture initiation with application to petroleum reservoirs, geothermal systems, and rock mass preconditioning in mining operations.
