Joffre Sanftenberg

Senior Engineer

Joffre Sanftenberg is a Professional Engineer with 15 years of industry experience currently employed as a Senior Mining Engineer with Itasca Consulting Canada Inc. He provides project management as well as mining engineering analysis and design services for active mining operations as well as for scoping, prefeasibility, and feasibility level mine studies. He is experienced in drill and blast design, optimization and performance monitoring, mine closure, stability assessments, and deep mining studies, such as Glencore’s Kidd Mine 5 and Nickel Rim South Extension as well as Vale’s Creighton Phase 5 assessment. He uses numerical modelling analysis to inform decision making and generate practical geomechanics solutions.

Joffre has engineering management experience with the demonstrated ability to break down barriers between departments and build an environment that integrates the engineering group into an operations team, which encourages creativity and solution generation required in complex and late-stage mining environments. He possesses a strong background in both bulk mining and narrow vein operations as the process owner for all mine systems, design, planning, and scheduling activities. His experience encompasses the evaluation and feasibility of new mining zones, including the development of mine extraction sequences, long range and life of mine plans, annual reserves and cut-off grades, annual budget preparation, mining method review/selection, annual cash-flow analysis, and compliance to regulatory standards to ensure safe and economic orebody extraction.

He is experienced in drill and blast design and optimization to maximize recovery, reduce costs, and manage high-stress environments. He is also involved with leading innovation through the use of new technologies (i.e., wireless detonators, autonomous mucking, and ventilation on demand technology) to transform historical mining practices to promote efficiency and ensure future sustainability.
